NOAA Predicts Active 2010 Hurricane Season
The North Atlantic hurricane season officially began June 1st and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts an "active to extremely active" hurricane season.
The main factor influencing this prediction is that fact that Pacific Ocean waters have cooled after last year's warmer than normal temperatures. Warm ocean waters called El Niņo suppress hurricanes from forming in the Atlantic and are credited for the relatively mild 2009 season.
Forecasts of an active hurricane season underscore the importance of preparation. Businesses should develop an emergency plan and stay informed of the latest forecasts.
